Water Salute welcomes Wings Air inaugural flight from Makassar to stunning Toraja Highlands

The stunningly scenic Toraja highlands in the north of South Sulawesi, which could formerly be reached only after a strenuous 8-10 hours drive, can now be flown in a mere one hour flight from Makassar, capital of the province of South Sulawesi.

Wings air made its inaugural commercial flight for the first time on Friday 4 September arriving 48 passengers to a water salute by Toraja Airports Authority. The launch was preceded by an official ceremony officiated by local government and agencies.

Low-cost carrier Wings Air, a member of Lion Air Group, is to operate a new route connecting Makassar city and Tana Toraja regency in South Sulawesi. According to a statement, the airline is “the first and only” carrier currently offering the service, which will be available four times a week every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

From Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Wings Air IW-1330 is scheduled to depart at 9:35 a.m. local time and land at Toraja Airport at 10:35 a.m. On the same day, Wings Air IW-1331 will leave Tana Toraja at 10:55 a.m. and arrive in Makassar at 11:55 a.m. 

The service will utilize ATR-600 or ATR-72-500 aircraft that can accommodate 72 economy class passengers.
