The geotrails spread across the southern part of the Pacitan Regency, East Java Province. The regency lies by the border between East Java and Central Java, it is rich with geological heritage such as karst hills and thousands cave. All the natural beauties make Pacitan emerging as one the new tourism sight in Indonesia. In 2013 United Nation Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) conduct a study to include the sight in the Global Geopark Network.
Pacitan located in the southern side of Java Island, the regency is blessed with stretch of natural karst along the Sewu Mountains, starting from Kidul Mountain, Yogyakarta province, Wonogiri Regency all the way to Tulungagung Regency in East Java. The sights scattered in several district such as Donojoro, Punung, Peringkuku, and some part of Pacitan district.
The Geopark itself consist of beach with karst structure, stalactites and stalagmite caves, archaeological artifacts and underground rivers. All can be enjoyed by travelers, either landscape lover, adrenaline junkies or even serious Petrologist.
Another wonderful experience you can get here in Pacitan is a cave adventure in the best and the most beautiful cave in Southeast Asia Gong Cave. It is beautiful because you can see the stalactite and stalagmite while walking down inside the cave for about 2 hours. Located in Punung sub-district, which is 37 kilometers from the center of the city, it is surrounded by non-active mountains.
