Luckily, here in Bali, there are plenty of hidden spot to visit off the beaten path for your next vacation plan. Here we have compiled some of the most underrated ones. Read below to see if you’re familiar with one of these ‘secret’ getaways!
The Tomb of Jayaprana
A solemn site that marks one of Bali’s most tragic and legendary love stories, the Tomb of Jayaprana is the island’s very own version of ‘Romeo-Juliet’, and a definite must-visit place to put on your next holiday bucket list. The tale depicted a convoluted love story between a servant named Jayaprana, village girl named Layon Sari and the jealous reigning king. In the end, Jayaprana choose loyalty over love and let himself be murdered on the king’s order, who wish to own his wife, Layon Sari. But lady Layon Sari have a better idea and choose to kill herself so he can be with her husband rather than the (mad) king. And thus, the legendary love story was born from the heart of Bali, and we are still wondering if will we get a proper adaptation of this soul-crunching drama into a full-blown movie. The Tomb of Jayaprana is well preserved and located in Sumber Klampok village, Gerokgak, Buleleng Regency of Singaraja. You will have to go on a path between the iconic ‘barren trees’ to enter the humble tomb’s area. Go pay a visit especially whenever you have ‘North Bali’ planned on your itinerary.
Green Cliff and Little Grotto of Undisan Bali
A wonderful place to enjoy Bali’s serene tranquility at its finest, the Green Cliff gains its moniker from moss that covered every inch of its natural stone walls. There is a small, swimmable river between the towering moss cliff, with a little grotto located just a little deeper into the cave area. Dip in the refreshing water and dive around to explore the beauty underneath if you’re feeling adventurous, or simply sit on one of the rocks around this captivating site to meditate and enjoy the breezy flow of wind and never-ending peaceful sound of trickling water. You can find this hidden gem by driving to Undisan Village, Bangli (about approximately 2 hours from South Bali), and walk a couple minutes through the paddy fields, forest and ravines. Mind your step, as its going to be a quite challenging foot trip, but the short journey will definitely worth your while!
Boulder Beach Yeh Leh
You may have seen this one on picture before; a misty coastline with thousands of round boulders decorating its sides, down to the shore. Boulder Beach Yeh Leh remains as one of the most magical beaches to visit in Bali. Not your average picturesque beach, instead of soft white sand, thousands of boulders litter the shore of Yeh Leh–either covered in algae or washed clean by the waves. These mysterious rocks have been smoothed over for hundreds of years, leaving few clues about the origin. You can easily visit this magnificent spot anytime on your holiday, but the best moment is on the low tide, where the boulders are mostly unearthed and there are many fascinating sea creatures get trapped between its natural rock pools.
Perched in Subaya Village, Kintamani, Mende Hill offers a vantage point view of Eastern Bali’s scenic vista beyond the clouds; green mountains, stretch of blue Ocean, and terraces from the rice fields of local farmers. The plateau has a 60 degree slope (mind your step!) and surrounded by extensive hills and green plants as far as eyes can see. It is a perfect destination for hikers and adrenaline seeker who wish to spend one of their vacation days in a secluded ‘wilderness’ with fresh captivating view that would leave you breathless.
Situated in Bugbug Village of Karangasem Regency, Asah Hill is an idyllic place to take in magnificent panoramic views of Bali’s magnificent natural panorama; sea, rugged coastline and green hills alike. Its tranquil aura is aided by the small number of visitors, which has earned it the name among tourists as ‘Silent Hill’ (!). Don’t get startled by the moniker, because Asah Hill is far from creepy. It offers an ultimate embodiment of tranquility, combined with fantastic scenery. The atmosphere is still fairly quiet, as not many people know about this destinations yet, makes it a perfect alternatives for those who wish to have a serene retreat from frenetic city. It is highly recommended to camp for a night and fully enjoy the hill’s scenic charm by sunrise.
