Set alongside the rushing Ayung River, the Green Village rises out of the lush jungle in Sibang, Bali. Designed by Elora Hardy, this village of 18 houses is not only unique by material but also by concept. Each property in this eco-centrical village is entirely crafted from sustainably-sourced bamboo.
It is a luxury living with vast spiral staircases, bridges and stunning sloping roofs. The buildings actually resemble the ones at the Green Village’s sister site, the Green School which was founded by John hardy, father of Elora Hardy in 2006. Like the school, the village is also powered by more than 100 solar panels so owners of the houses can still enjoy home comforts and technology.
Apart from bamboo, the only other materials used to build the houses are banana paper and sheets of aluminum. With its unique concept and design, the village has attracted buyers and investors from across the globe who have spent between $500,000 and $2,000,000 for a house. Over 200 bamboo farmers were paid to grow the organic material.
“We treat each piece of bamboo with a mixture of water and boric acid to stop fungus and insects. Before doing this a bamboo structure would last only seven years, now we’re not sure how long a building can last,” says Mokoho Sumerta, the chief builder.
Entering the house is a feast to the eyes and a showcase at how black and white bamboo can be combined in all shapes and pattern to create a stunning collection of luxurious floors, walls, ceiling, stairs and railings. Even the roof is an innovative arrangement of bamboo shingles.
This incredible house, called Sunrise House, perched on the edge of the Ayung river valley, comprises an incredible 4 floors, with 3 double bed bedrooms, 3 ensuite bathrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining area with fabulous views, plunge pool, an office/ work area on the top (4th) floor, and other lookout areas. The main entrance is on the 3rd floor, where the lounge and kitchen and TV bubble room are situated. Going down the stairs to the second floor leads to 2 bedrooms, each with ceiling fans, both with ensuite bathrooms, and a reading room between the two. The bottom floor holds the Master Bedroom, with AC. It is unlikely guests will need AC!
The master bedroom also includes a drying room with a de-humidifier. All the bedrooms have wind down bamboo blinds for privacy. From the bottom floor, guests can exit the house and take the stairs down to the plunge pool and private garden, perched quite literally on the edge of the river valley. All the rooms are furnished with exquisite bamboo furniture which perfectly complements the décor. The scenery and view from the house is utterly breathtaking. The photos do not do the House and surrounding environment justice. See it and believe it.
The house includes ADSL WIFI, TV with DVD player (bring DVDs if you want to watch), and Indovision Satellite TV. Access is also available to the communal areas which include a natural pool, yoga / relaxation pavilion, edible gardens, and parking areas.
For dining, guests can order breakfast, lunch and dinner from our menu. Just tell the staffs resorts the day before if you need this service. A Balinese or self catering Western breakfast is included. They also offer private lunch /dinner catering or a Balinese chef to cook at your villa and menus from Ubud restaurants who will deliver takeaway meals direct to this house!
The house sets in a very natural environment, and whilst there a couple of local village stores nearby with some very basic supplies, they are 15 mins away the main road. Guest also can bring along any personal supplies you may need, snacks, fruits, drinks. Other available services are massage, yoga instructor and car with driver, and specialised Bamboo related guided tours.
